HMP The Mount is located in Bovingdon, just outside Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. It’s a category C adult male training prison, with a capacity of 770, which offers both full and part-time education to inmates. It originally opened in 1987, when it was an establishment for young offenders. However, nowadays, it only accepts adult prisoners. HMP The Mount is a category C training prison in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire. Opened in 1987, the prison has the capacity to hold 1032 male inmates.
Annex is a pre-release wing holding 36 prisoners. Fowler and Brister are enhanced wings holding a total of 112 and 110 prisoners respectively. Lakes and Ellis are standard wings holding a total of 117 prisoners each. Howard is a standard wing holding 110 prisoners. Dixon is a standard/Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust (RAPt) wing holding 120 prisoners. Narey is the older prisoner wing holding 60 prisoners. Nash is the induction/resettlement wing holding 250 prisoners.
Daniel Kelly was sentenced to 14 months in prison for attempting to supply offenders in HMP Elmley, HMP Wandsworth and HMP The Mount with drugs.
A group of inmates filmed themselves having a “drug fueled party” in October 2015. Six inmates are seen cramped in a cell smoking drugs from a “homemade bong”, and showing off a pot of blue pills, saying “Yes, we have the f***ing steroids, my friend.”.
