HMP Hydebank Wood is a young offender’s institution and prison, which consists of two distinct sections. The college prison houses inmates between the ages of 18 and 21, and has a focus on providing education and employment opportunities. The other section, Ash House, holds female prisoners, both sentenced and remand. It’s situated in Belfast and has a capacity of 306. HMP Hydebank Wood is a women’s prison in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The prison is also a Young Offenders Centre (YOC) holding males aged 17 to 24 years of age. The prison has capacity to hold 306 inmates in total.
A hunt started in February 2016 after murderer Alison McDonagh escaped from HMP Hydebank Wood on 11th February 2016.
Ash House has five self-contained landings, each with dining and association areas. Ash House landing 2 is used as a first night centre and for women on induction. Ash House landing 5, the best accommodation, houses women who require little supervision and who are on the enhanced regime. Ash House landing 4 also accommodates women on the enhanced regime. Two mother and baby rooms are located on landing 4. The Ornella Suite on the ground floor had a hairdressing classroom, a training kitchen, a multi-faith room, a drop-in centre and a medical facility.
