Hello!
I came across a news story in the weeks news when I was sifting that quite frankly astonished me,
As I’m sure you’re aware mobile phones are a big no no inside any UK Prison or any prison worldwide I would imagine however almost 300 of them were found from searches carried out in Tayside prisons by sniffer dogs and prison staff.
Over 200 were found in Perth prison which only has a population of 633 prisoners and a further 87 were found within Castle huntly prison that’s population is less then half of that at Perth at just 285!
Having a mobile phone in prison is big business according to an ex prison officer who has informed me that they can trade hands within prison for as much as £600 each!
I know most people will assume that prisoners are using the phones to flought the law and taunt their victims using social media sites such as facebook and twitter however I still believe that the majority of these phones are used to just keep in touch with loved ones,
Some prison wings have over 100 inmates on them and only 2 or 3 pay phones this means the prisoners get hardly any time whatsoever to make their calls and keep up to date with the goings on of the outside world.
However that being said the price some of these phones are traded for within those walls has me thinking a lot of other problems such as debt and bulling would also be linked to these devices.
One or two maybe you could assume they were sent in and slipped through the net but up to a third of the prison population having one? that seems excessive don’t you think!
anyway just me thinking allowed once again!
